Poltergeist Sofa Bench by Christine Schwarzer: It isn’t a horror story
Posted by Lizza under Ultra Modern
To be sure, individual seating in restaurants, cafes, and bistros is popular. Still, bench-type or sofa-type seating is also a hit among patrons, whether they’re placed indoors or outdoors. For one thing, it seems more casual and more intimate somehow, even though a lot of designs are realized in luxurious upholstery or opulent leather. Even more casual, of course, but no less intimate are seats like Christine Schwarzer’s Poltergeist Sofa Bench.
The name is a bit perturbing – the chair’s name, not the designer’s. By all accounts, poltergeists are scary creatures. But there’s nothing frightening about this sofa bench at all. It looks bright, pretty, and modern enough to be used as indoor or outdoor bar chairs in many of today’s dining establishments.
The inner frame of steel and wood is covered in molded polyurethane foam, which in turn is covered with fabric or leather. So it promises comfortable seating, even though it looks like it’s made from hard plastic, judging by the picture. Of course, if you will be using it in your restaurant’s al fresco section, I’m thinking it will need quite a bit more maintenance because of its constant exposure to the elements, in addition to customer traffic.
Using it as commercial reception furniture is not a bad idea at all too. A few people could squeeze together on one Poltergeist Sofa Bench instead of sitting apart in individual chairs. Much more fun and intimate interactions among them, it would seem. They can even play with the backrests: removing all, or placing just one or two. And for an even more intimate arrangement, you or they could arrange the backrests in a tête à tête position. Also, this chair has runners in chromed steel, so no worries that it will scratch or damage your floor.
If you are looking for something just as interesting and a little more comfortable try a new bean bag chair. The great thing about these portable little foof chairs are how easy they are to move and clean, try decorating any room of your house with one.
